Our Work: Supporting Community Voice, Connection and Action
Community Voice
ACT provides simple, accessible ways for communities to share their stories, celebrate their achievements and raise the issues that matter to them.
We offer opportunities for community groups to:
Talk about their local work in a supportive, peer-led environment
Share successes, challenges and learning with others on a similar journey
Raise visibility of community-led action at a national level
How Community Voice Works at ACT
Monthly networking sessions
Our regular networking sessions provide a space for community leaders to speak openly about their work, connect with others and share updates from their areas.
Social media platforms
We actively promote community stories through ACT’s social media channels, including Facebook and X (formerly Twitter). Members can highlight projects, events and achievements, helping local work reach a wider audience.
Share your news
If you want to showcase the work happening in your community, you can: Email us with updates or stories; join a networking session and share directly and post in our Facebook group and join the conversation
A Time to ACT – Shared Learning and Best Practice
A Time to ACT is where much of ACT’s learning, insight and best practice is shared. It reflects our belief that lived experience is expertise.
Through A Time to ACT, we:
Share real-world insight from community leaders
Highlight practical approaches that have worked locally
Explore challenges communities face beyond major funding
Encourage honest conversation about what comes next
This learning is shared through:
Networking discussions
Written updates and reflections
Social media conversations
Newsletters and member communications
Rather than formal toolkits, A Time to ACT focuses on experience-led learning that is relevant, practical and grounded in reality.
Community Funding Opportunities
ACT supports communities by sharing funding opportunities and encouraging groups to go for them.
Our monthly ACT newsletter regularly includes funding opportunities relevant to community organisations. Many members have successfully applied for funding highlighted through ACT communications.
ACT’s approach to funding support includes:
Sharing accessible funding opportunities
Encouraging confidence to apply
Highlighting opportunities that may suit different sizes and stages of organisation
As one example, a recent funding opportunity shared through the newsletter led to a successful application following peer encouragement within the ACT network.
If you want to receive funding updates and community news, you can sign up to the newsletter.
Workshops and Events
ACT also works with partners to create opportunities for communities to take part in learning and exploration.
Recent Partner Workshops
ACT is currently working with Imperial College London to deliver a series of workshops planned for February and March 2025. These workshops will focus on citizen science, exploring topics such as:
Sea water quality
Air pollution
River water quality
These workshops were designed to support communities to engage with evidence, environment and local knowledge, and to explore how citizen science can inform community-led action.
